There are golf trips, and then there are places that make you stop, look around and think:

This is pretty special.

Costa Navarino is one of them.

I’ve just spent four days here recording an episode of Grapes & Greens with David Ashington, the General Manager of Golf, and managed to experience four outstanding golf courses, four exceptional hotels, some seriously good food and wine — and, perhaps most importantly, the Greek way of life.

The golf is fantastic.

The courses were in exceptional condition, each offering something different, with dramatic views and plenty of memorable holes.

But if you ask me what really makes Costa Navarino stand out, it isn't just the golf.

It’s everything around it.

The scenery is simply sensational. From the moment you arrive, the landscape, the sea, the mountains and the olive groves create a backdrop that is difficult to beat.

Whether you're standing on the first tee as the sun comes up or enjoying a drink as it disappears over the horizon, the views are genuinely spectacular.

There were plenty of moments when I found myself putting the golf clubs down and simply taking it all in.

The four hotels are superb, the food and beverage offering is first class and the service has that perfect balance — friendly, attentive and genuinely welcoming without ever feeling forced.

What I particularly enjoyed was the connection with the local area.

There is a real encouragement to get out and explore, to visit the local tavernas, eat the food and experience the community.

It gives Costa Navarino a sense of authenticity that you don't always find at a large resort destination.

Recording the podcast with David gave me a fascinating insight into the thinking behind Costa Navarino and, particularly, the importance of the local community to its future.

And after four days here, I understand why.

Because Costa Navarino isn't simply a place to come and play golf.

You can play a great course in the morning, have lunch overlooking the Mediterranean, spend the afternoon by the pool or on the beach, head to a local taverna in the evening and finish the day with a great bottle of wine — all while watching another extraordinary Greek sunset.

The golf gets you here. The lifestyle makes you want to come back.

That, for me, is the magic of Costa Navarino.
